The International workshop on the Convergence of Extreme Scale Computing and Big Data Analysis

Held in conjunction with IEEE IPDPS CCGrid 2017 Vancouver, British Columbia CANADA, May 21-25, 2018

Workshop Description

The goal of this workshop is to bring leading researchers from these communities together to jointly explore such integration, and to develop a research agenda towards brings the diverging research groups and technologies stack toward a more convergent path. The workshop provides a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and industry to present their latest research findings on major and emerging topics in this field.

How to arrive: 

Heraklion Airport

Please make sure you arrive to the Heraklion airport. There is only one airport in Heraklion, Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, code HER. Heraklion (also sometimes written as Iraklio or Iraklion) is located at the north coast of the island, at about the middle of the island on the east-west axis.

Airport to hotel

Distance from airport to any of these hotels is about 10-20 minutes, depending on traffic/time of the day. Taxi fair should be about 15 Euros. There are taxis parked outside the arrival terminal of the airport.

Hotel to FORTH

FORTH is located outside the city. Best way to reach FORTH is by taxi. Distance from hotels to FORTH is about 20 minutes by taxi. Fair should be around 15 Euros. Please ask at the reception of your hotel for a taxi. If you are taking a taxi directly from the airport to FORTH, distance should be about 20-30 minutes (they are at different ends of the city). Fair should be about 20 Euros.

Within the FORTH campus

The meeting room for the review will be the “Alkiviades Payatakes” meeting room, which is located in the main FORTH building (Building A). The main FORTH building is straight ahead as you enter the campus. The taxi will drive you right at the entrance of this building. Once you enter the building, there is a floor plan on your right, but there will also be signs to guide you to the meeting room.

All hotels below are located in the downtown area of the city. Depending on the season, these hotels offer reduced rates to FORTH visitors. For instructions on how to obtain the reduced rates, please check the event information circulated.

By car
Leave the M4 at Junction 5 and follow signs for Langley. At the first set of traffic lights - the Marriott Hotel is on the left - turn left. Follow the road, cross over roundabout and pass first road on your right. Ditton Park is the next turning right.

Parking
Visitors parking is clearly signposted to the front of the building.

By train
Trains leave Paddington for Slough approximately every 20 minutes. Ditton Park is a short taxi ride from the station.
